MOLLY POPE – brassy belter/whiskey guzzler/benevolent lunatic – sheds all pretense of humility and shamelessly entreats you to adore her for an hour while she prances about making loud noises. Unable to deny that she defines her self-worth entirely via social media notifications,  the “viscerally thrilling alto” (Time Out New York) exploits her fragile ego and vocal chops for your entertainment.  Expect the unexpected juxtapositions of song and substance alongside a healthy helping of her roots in The Great American Songbook. Over-sharing? Of course.  Sing-a-long? Yes. Three encores? Why not.

According to a recent rave review from Out.com (available here), “the girl has better word of mouth buzz than pretty much anything running in Manhattan. Waiting for her to take the stage, it was obvious that a good portion of the audience were returning fans as they excitedly chatted up the newbies to let us know we were in for something special. With pipes like a young Bette Midler and stage presence like a top-of-her-game Liza Minnelli, Pope draws the audience in with ease.” Last month’s review of the show in Cabaret Scenes stated “she is bombastic, boisterous, bold, sometimes belligerent, often beguiling, but always Molly Pope.”

MOLLY POPE is a critically acclaimed cabarettist whose shows have played Joe’s Pub, Feinstein’s at the Regency, Ars Nova, The Laurie Beechman Theater and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in Australia.  She has been named a Time Out New York“Top Ten Cabaret Act of 2008” and 2012 and a Village Voice Best of NYC 2011 for “Best Singer To Turn Life Into A Cabaret.”  Branded the “kicky, neo-retro cabaret chanteuse” and hailed as “tremendously entertaining” by The Wall Street Journal, she has also performed at The Cafe Carlyle (“Tales From The Jazz Age”), the Afterglow Festival in Provincetown and “Our Hit Parade” at Joe’s Pub.  Stage credits include Found at the Atlantic Theater Company, Horseplay, or the Fickle Mistress at La MaMa ETC / Theatre Askew, Dan Fishback’s The Material World at Dixon Place and Wonderful Town at Gallery Players.
