A.R.T.’s production of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess receives Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical
Productions developed at the A.R.T. in 2011 recieve 10 Tony Awards
Cambridge, MA – The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) is proud to announce that The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, produced during the A.R.T.’s 2011/12 Season and nominated for 10 Tony Awards for its run on Broadway, received the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and its star Audra McDonald earned the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical this evening.
In addition, Once, which was developed at the A.R.T. last spring and was nominated for 11 awards, received the awards for Best Direction of a Musical John Tiffany, Best Actor in a Musical Steve Kazee, Best Scenic Design of a Musical Bob Crowley, Best Sound Design of a Musical A.R.T.’s Resident Sound Designer Clive Goodwin, Best Book of a Musical Enda Walsh, Best Orchestration of a Musical Martin Lowe, Best Lighting Design of a Musical Natasha Katz, and Best Musical.
Tony Award (and Drama Desk Award) winning Director John Tiffany will return to the A.R.T. next season at the helm of Tennessee Williams’ classic drama The Glass Menagerie, beginning performances on February 2, 2013.
