The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess
garners Grammy Award nomination
55th Annual Grammy Awards to be held February 10 in Los Angeles
Cambridge, MA — The Recording Academy announced today that the cast album of The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, produced during the A.R.T.’s 2011-12 Season under the direction of A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, received a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and its star Audra McDonald earned the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical during its run on Broadway last season.
Diane Paulus’s current project is the revival of Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson’s musical Pippin, which began performances December 5 and runs through January 20, 2013 at the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, MA.
In addition, Once, which was developed at the A.R.T and received eight Tony Awards, also received a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album.
Once’s Tony Award (and Drama Desk Award)-winning Director John Tiffany returns to the A.R.T. this season at the helm of Tennessee Williams’ classic drama The Glass Menagerie, featuring Cherry Jones, Zachary Quinto, Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Brian J. Smith; it begins performances on February 2 and runs through March 17, 2013 at the Loeb Drama Center.
