THE EVENING FEATURES

Baby Uncle – Mike Calabrese and Lyle Brewer
This duo is the culmination of many years spent saying they were going to start a project together, and finally Mike Calabrese and local guitar hero Lyle Brewer are doing it. They're really doing it. Having met in college, the pair found themselves to be quick friends with complementary musical styles. They've played duo exactly one time before, in a practice room, but it felt great and they figured hey, let's do this again in twelve years. The songs will be Calabrese's originals with some scattered covers. Brewer will bring his arranging expertise and graceful fretwork. Get ready for double guitars, tiny drum kits and a whole lot of fresh collaborative energy. We have no idea what's going to happen.

Bridget Kearney and Robin MacMillan
Kearney and MacMillan will be playing songs from Kearney's first solo record, due for release in 2017. The two recorded the album together in MacMillan's Brooklyn basement studio, with MacMillan wearing the hats of recording engineer, producer, drummer and percussionist and Kearney wearing most of the other hats that exist--electric guitarist, synth player, pianist, organist, songwriter, lead singer, back-up singer 1, back-up singer 2, back-up singer 17, etc. For this concert, the stripped down versions of these brand new original songs will feature MacMillan wearing the hat of drummer and Kearney wearing as many hats as she can fit on at one time (given ceiling height restrictions.)

Rachael Price and Vilray
Rachael and Vilray have a deep reverence for the pop music of the 1930s and 40s and its wide range of emotions. With minimal instrumentation and simple arrangements, the duo revives fading classics and forgotten obscurities by the great jazz big bands and western swing small ensembles. Their sound recalls both the warmth of radio’s golden age and the intimacy of parlor concerts in a time before recordings.
