BIOGRAPHY

Mary Beth Peil

Mary Beth Peil created the role of Nan Bemis in the WPA Theater production of The Naked Eye (then called The Naked Truth). Her Broadway credits include Anna in The King and I (Tony Award nomination); off-Broadway she appeared as Addie in Missing Persons (1995 Obie Award), Kate in Sylvia, Edmee in Finding the Sun, Marjorie in Birds of Paradise, Cymbeline at the Joseph Papp Public Theater and Desire in A Little Night Music with New York Opera Theatre. Her extensive resident theater credits include Gertrude in Hamlet at the Huntington Theatre, A Month in the Country at Arena Stage, Floyd Collins and States of Independence at the  American Music Theatre Festival, Assassins at San Jose Civic Opera, Sweeney Todd at Paper Mill Playhouse, and Anthony and Cleopatra and Tales of the Vienna Woods at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Ms. Peil has performed in national and international tours of The King and I and The Sound of Music. Film and television credits include Reckless, Comfortably Numb, "Law and Order" and "Summer and Smoke" (PBS's Great Performances). She has also sung with the Metropolitan Opera National Company, the New York City Opera, Young Concert Artists, and the New York Philharmonic.
