A musical fable for children and grown-ups, Ami and Tami is a contemporary twist on Hansel and Gretel.

Created by Matti Kovler at age 17, the musical was given a full production in Israel to much acclaim. Kovler, now living in the US, has had it translated into a hilarious English libretto. The original score calls for a cast of seven leads, a dancing choir, and a full orchestra. In the current production, inspired by Sondheim’s recent adaptation of Sweeney Todd, all parts are performed by seven actors who also play various musical instruments. The new version was workshopped this spring at Boston University’s Elie Wiesel Center and the Boston Children’s Museum. The world premiere of the orchestral version will take place this summer as part of the Outside The Box Festival at the Boston Commons.
