This dark and daring musical explores the life and times of those who have tried to or succeeded in killing a President of the United States. A sinister Proprietor lures John Wilkes Booth, Squeaky Fromme, and others to a carnival where all you have to do to win is shoot; all the while, the distorted funhouse mirror of the American Dream reflects the motivations and struggles of the competitors. Staged in the immersive atmosphere of the American Repertory Theater’s OBERON, Assassins is a fractured and macabre vaudevillian look at promise, expectation, and what it means to be an American.
