Honoring the Resilience of Black and Brown LGBTQ Communities

Each fall, the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC) hosts its annual gala to commemorate its founding in 2009. Happening this year on November 1, we will gather in community to be inspired by, reflect, and call upon the beauty, strength, and wisdom of (and critical need for) queer radical thought and movements led by people of color – past, present, and future.

Host Committee
Kevin Hepner, VP of Administration and Finance, Roxbury Community College
Gary Bailey, DHL, MSW, ACSW, Professor of Practice at Simmons College
Hope Denese Freeman, Director, LGBT Center, Tufts University

This is a General Admission event and not all tickets are seated.

The evening will feature a performance by Foundation Movement.  Eroc and Optimus, artists with origins from Puerto Rico (Borinquen) and Liberia, met in Boston and united to form the Foundation Movement 16 years ago. This cultural fusion, as well as their experiences growing up in Boston, has influenced the Foundation Movement's music. Both proud parents, educators, and organizers that have committed their lives to the pursuit of positive social change, they are not another rap group with watered down lyrics and messages of misogyny and materialism -- Foundation Movement is committed to addressing issues of injustice and oppression while entertaining crowds. In 2016, they organized "Hip Hop 4 Flint/Boston," part of a national movement to support the residents of Flint, Michigan, raising nearly $4,000 in one day. To the Foundation Movement it is more than music, it's a movement.
