When creating the declaration of independence, what mattered was freedom from the British and compromise. While the northern states wanted to abolish slavery and call King George a tyrant like he was, the southern states were against it for their own gain. What ended up mattering more than their individual beliefs at the time was freedom from Britain. This was shown many times for example completely erasing the paragraph about slavery to come to the agreement to sign. I would also like to say how awesome this show was and how my friend still talks about how "John Adams liked my hat!"
