An honest reckoning with our past helps us move forward because by learning from our mistakes, we can strive for more equity in the future. When we look back at history, there are many things that are hard to witness, which is why many people refuse to look back - an example of this is not teaching about slavery in school. But, when we look back at history, we need to have a different mindset. Instead of thinking of the bad things in history and doing nothing about it, we can look back and learn from our mistakes. This will allow us to have a better future and present.
