Hello, my name is Kenneth Cacho Bermudez and I’m an 8th grader at Boston Latin School. I watched the play on a field trip and immediately loved it. The humor, the energy, the actors, everything. You could tell that so much effort was put into it and portraying the real story of what happened in the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As a black individual, I really liked seeing the depiction of slavery in the play instead of portraying them as higher beings who wouldn’t do anything bad. That’s why I chose the prompt of “How does an honest reckoning with our past help us move forward together?” In my opinion, the founding fathers get put on this pedestal of being high, mighty, honorable men instead of just being flesh and blood just like the rest of us. They drank, they had sexual tendencies, and they had emotions and arguments just like the rest of us. By making them seem like demi-gods or surrogates of God, we should realize they were human just like us. Those are just my thoughts.
