What mattered to the founding fathers when they were creating the declaration of independence was first the rights that would be granted to the individual states that they represented, not necessarily the good of the people. Next, they wanted to preserve the right to be independent from britain, although not all of the founding fathers were for that idea either.
Just the question “what mattered to the founding fathers?” can be answered in so many ways because like us, they were people too, with their own opinions and ideas and no two thought the exact same way.
