In celebration of the 100th anniversary of James Joyce’s Ulysses, join A.R.T. for conversation exploring the connections between this iconic work and the source material that fundamentally inspired it: Homer’s Odyssey. Classical studies scholar Joel Christensen (Brandeis University), Joyce scholar Douglas Mao (Johns Hopkins University), and noted playwright Kate Hamill (Sense and Sensibility) are joined by actors Andrus Nichols and Daniel José Molina (Othello) to juxtapose scenes from Hamill’s new adaptation of The Odyssey, currently in development at A.R.T., with both the original epic poem and the landmark modernist novel.

A.R.T.’s Civically Speaking series, features virtual conversations, lectures, and performance events on history, politics, justice, and the meaning of democracy.

The Odyssey is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
