Marga Gomez

Pound

In Pound, Marga Gomez plays a celibate celesbian catapulted through a vaginal portal into a steamy data cloud where notorious lesbian cinematic archetypes such as extortionists, showgirls, murderers, and school teachers hook up in spectacularly meta ways. A critically acclaimed Off-Off Broadway hit directed by David Schweizer, The New York Times calls Pound “Hilariously skewed.” Marga Gomez is an award-winning writer and performer of 12 solo plays which have been presented at The Public Theater, La Mama ETC, Dixon Place, Highways, Bootleg Theater, and various other theaters in the U.S. and across the world.

Clad in a plaid shirt, black shorts and black boots, Ms. Gomez performs her show, which she wrote and which is directed by David Schweizer, as a sort of live movie script. (“Flashback. Interior. Doctor’s office.”) Her delivery is crisp, brisk and often deadpan, but her big, dark eyes gleam with intensity. More

Marga Gomez is celibate? We’d heard that “Pound,” the San Francisco lesbian comedy icon’s latest monologue, contains some edgy material. But this notion is truly a shocker. More

In her raunchy new solo show ‘Pound,’ the solo performer takes on filmic stereotypes—and tries to one-up crude male comics. More
