Alec Duffy

Writer, Arranger and Performer

Alec is the founder and Artistic Director of Hoi Polloi, a collaborative theater company he founded in 2007. Recent work he’s directed includes John Cassavetes’ Shadows (The Collapsable Hole, Brooklyn) and Murder in the Cathedral (The Church of St. Joseph, Brooklyn). With Hoi Polloi, he conceived and directed The less we talk and Dysphoria (Ontological Theater, NYC) and The Top Ten People of the Millennium Sing Their Favorite Schubert Lieder (Bank Street Theater, NYC and the Victory Gardens Theater, Chicago). Duffy is a Drama League Directing Fellow and was selected for the 2007–09 NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Directors. Duffy is also an award-winning songwriter—his song “Condoleezza” was featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered and his song “Every Day is Christmas” was selected by Sufjan Stevens as the winner of his Xmas Song Xchange Contest in 2009. www.hoipolloiworld.com.
