Dick Scanlan

A.R.T.: ExtraOrdinary. Dick Scanlan wrote the musicals Thoroughly Modern Millie (book and lyrics, Tony Award for Best Musical), Everyday Rapture (Tony nomination for Best Book with Sherie Rene Scott), Renascence (book and co-director with Jack Cummings, Off-Broadway at the Transport Group) and The Unsinkable Molly Brown (new book and additional lyrics, Denver Center and St. Louis Muny). He served as script consultant to Berry Gordy on Motown the Musical, and creative consultant for Invisible Thread (formerly Witness Uganda) at 2econd Stage. His plays include Whorl Inside a Loop at 2econd Stage, co-written with Sherie Rene Scott and co-directed with Michael Mayer. Scanlan directed Jake Gyllenhaal and Ellen Greene in Little Shop of Horrors at Encores! Off-Center. His novel, Does Freddy Dance, was published by Alyson Publications. He has published numerous articles and essays in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and other publications.
