Humberto Dorado

The Keening: playwright. Screenwriter, actor Humberto Dorado was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and has been a major figure on stage and screen since 1967. As scriptwriter, he is the author of the most important Colombian films in recent times, including Tecnicas de Duelo (Details of a Duel), recipient of a National Screenplay Award in 1987, selected by the Museum of Modern Art and the Lincoln Center for the “New Directors, New Films” Festival (1989), Best Film and Critics Award in the International Film Festival of Gramado (Brazil), winner in the Biarritz Film Festival (France), 1990; La Estrategia del Caracol (The Strategy of the Snail), invited to the Berlin Film Festival (OCIC Award), winner in Huelva, Valladolid (Spain), and Chicago Latin (USA) Film Festivals, among others; Aguilas No Cazan Moscas (Eagles Don't Hunt Flies), invited to the 1951 Venezia Film Festival (Golden UNESCO Award), winner in Sundance Film Festival (USA) (Latin American Cinema Award); Golpe de Estadio, distribuited during 2000 in Latin America and Europe. He has also written numerous films for television. As actor he appeared in King Lear (Edgard), The Crucible (Judge Danforth), Teatro Libre, Bogotá;  No Exit (Garcin), Death Trap, Bent (Horst), Scenes from a Marriage (He), ART (Mark), Oleanna (John), National Theatre of Colombia; among others. His films as actor include The Debt, Heaven’s Kingdom, Ilona Arrives with the Rain, and Famigerado.
