BIOGRAPHY

Qian Yi

Qian Yi (Girl in Snow in June), a veteran of the Beijing Opera, played the leading role of Du Liniang in Chen Shi-Zheng's epic The Peony Pavilion, which was premiered in the US at the Lincoln Center Festival and subsequently presented at the Festival d'Automne in Paris, at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, at the Perth International Arts Festival, at the Aarhus Festival in Denmark, and at the Esplanade Centre in Singapore. She studied with the Kunju Masters of the Shanghai Opera School and appeared in theaters throughout China, renowned for her performances in The Legend of the White Serpent. She was awarded the title of National Best Young Kunju Actress by the Chinese Minister of Culture. Qian Yi made her English language debut in The Orphan of Zhao at Lincoln Center, and recently appeared as a dancer in Monteverdi's Vespers with the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston.
