BIOGRAPHY

Sercan Engin

Plays the Saz/Baglama, a Turkish long-neck lute, percussion, and is a singer, both solo and in an ensemble. She studied at the Academy of Music and Dance, the Rotterdam Conservatory, specializing in Turkish music. She is a songwriter and has performed for Women’s Mosque in the Balie in Amsterdam; she wrote the song "When We Left for Rotterdam" recorded on CD during the Rotterdam 2001 Cultural Capital of Europe festival. She toured with The Veiled Monologues in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Turkey. Ms. Engin teaches music to kids; participates in volunteer activities, including Foreign Women Centre in Breda, Children’s Phone, and the Bureau for Turkish Participation in Utrecht.  She is an official translator for Turkish respondents for texts and official letters with the Palet Foundation Tilburg. She has a master's degree in psychology and is a psychologist in residence in St. Elisabeth Hospital in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
