A.R.T. + MXAT = R&J (OMG)
MAY 6, 2012
Empirical Rogue, a NYC-based company formed of A.R.T./MXAT Institute Alums (we reported on their Hamlet back in the fall…another cold and somewhat rainy time in our lives), is taking on Shakespeare’s most famous and oft-quoted romances. No, not Two Noble Kinsmen…
ROMEO AND JULIET
Featuring lovable Institute grads Jacob Martin (’10), Susannah Hoffmann (’10), Sarah Baskin (’08) and Doug Chapman (’09), directed by Tim Eliot (’10).
That’s right. Four actors. No more, no less. A WHOLE SHAKESPEARE PLAY! That’s, like, 2 million characters (mostly messengers). Here’s what Tim has to say about this bold production:
“We have worked hard to understand how the politics and economy of the culture form the background of the love story, driving it headlong off a cliff. We want the audience to feel depths of compassion they only rarely know they have, by seeing how close everyone comes to a better solution at almost every turn in the play.”
We at the A.R.T. continue to root for the success of our Institute graduates, and encourage all of you to make the trip to New York for this exciting take onR&J!
Performances of Romeo and Juliet run May 19 through June 10, Thursday through Sunday at 8:00 pm with noperformance on Sunday, May 20 at chashama (26-15 Jackson Ave.; between 44th Dr. and 43rd Ave.; Subway: E, M, 7 and G to Court Square).
