A Visual Arts Exhibition for The Blue Flower

As we begin performances of The Blue Flower in our theater, there is another element in the building that will enhance the audience’s appreciation of the show. The show is a collage of music, narrative, film, and movement to mirror the intense interest in collage work following World War I; the characters and the story is inspired by the lives of 20th century expressionist painters Max Beckman and Franz Mac, and the Dadaists Hannah Hôch (pioneer of photo-montage) and Kurt Schwitters. In that spirit and to serve as a visual introduction to show, co-creator Ruth Bauer, and several Harvard students have organized a visual arts exhibition. These images illustrate some of the installations that can be found in the lobby of the A.R.T. during the run of the show.
