American Repertory Theater wins eight 2010 Independent Reviewers of New England Awards

A.R.T. productions from the 2010 calendar year were honored with eight Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards last night, tying with the Huntington for total number of awards. No theater company received more awards for their musical productions than the A.R.T.

The Blue Flower — playing December 1 through January 8 at the Loeb Drama Center — was the evening’s biggest winner, garnering honors for:

Best New Musical — Jim Bauer and Ruth Bauer

Best Music Director – Mark Rubinstein

Best Actor in a Musical – Daniel Jenkins

Best Supporting Actress in a Musical – Meghan McGeary

Best Lighting Design — Justin Townsend

Best Sound Design – Clive Goodwin.

Cabaret (which ran August 31 through October 29 at OBERON), received two awards:

Best Ensemble

Best Supporting Actor in a Musical – Thomas Derrah, who was the hit of the season with his moving portrayal of Fraulein Schneider.

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards were founded by Beverly Creasey of the Journal Newspapers and Larry Stark of TheaterMirror in 1997. The IRNE Awards recognize the extraordinary wealth of talent in the Boston theatre community. The IRNE Committee is comprised of David Brooks Andrews, Sheila Barth, Jules Becker, Kay Bourne, Beverly Creasey, Shirley Esthimer, Richard Fahey, Guy Giampapa, Norm Gross, Bryce Lambert, Beatrice Lee, Kilian Melloy and Larry Stark.
