Go for a walk…WITH THEATER!
OCT 3, 2012
The A.R.T. teamed up with 826 Boston to write a series of audioplays inspired by certain interesting locales within Franklin Park. When was the last time you went to Franklin Park? What? You’ve NEVER been there? For shame.
Franklin Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the famous landscape architect who revolutionized park design (you may have heard of a little park he created called CENTRAL PARK), and is part of Olmsted’s “Emerald Necklace”series of parks, which includes Boston Common, the Fens, the Public Garden, and Jamaica Pond, among others.
We were lucky to get to run a workshop at the awesome 826 Boston Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute (all the 826 writing centers have fun storefronts); a wide age range of kids participated in our three-day project, and it was great to see how the younger and older writers complemented each other. We wrote the first draft of our plays outside, at the park, then brought the scripts to the A.R.T. to record them with the illustrious A.R.T. Institute acting ensemble.
The end result? See (rather, hear) for yourself at the Neighborhood Podcast Play Series page.
