Inside the Institute: EAGER AND EXCITED TO INTERN AT THE A.R.T.!
JAN 31, 2013
Hey all you people! I bet you’re wondering who I am right now. Well, let me tell you. I am Milan, a junior from Boston Collegiate Charter School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. During junior year at my school, students must complete internships in different work places. The point of the internships is to prepare students for the real world and help them find out whether the career path they have in mind is right for them; or the complete opposite.
I have been fortunate enough to have Michael Eder and Samuel Martinborough great teachers both inside and outside of school, who helped me get my internship. Can you guess where I am an intern? I’ll give you a hint. It’s a really amazing place where characters come to life and your imagination is brought to a new level. I wouldn’t dare forget to mention that here, at the A.R.T., the behind the scenes work holds it all together, and I don’t just mean during rehearsals. The people in the offices work all day to keep this nonprofit organization going, and they do an amazing job at it. The A.R.T. is keeping theater alive!
I love getting my education and participating in the school musical, but now it’s time to amp it up a bit. For two weeks, I was fully immersed in the A.R.T. Institute and shadowed two of the first year graduate students, Marissa Stewart and Justin Packard. This entails following them in their acting, voice, and conditioning classes while taking down notes for the blog, as well as for myself as an aspiring actress and singer. I will also be helping out in the marketing department and doing some of the office work that glues everything together behind the scenes. My blog posts are here to give you a closer look at how the A.R.T. works. So, if it pleases you, follow my posts as we Journey On (Ragtime reference) and go “Into the Woods.” With all of the exciting things that go on around here, who knows if we’ll make it home before dark?
