Artists share their personal connections to the Arnold Arboretum and the inspiration behind their work on The Arboretum Experience.

Like the storied trees we plant to grow and develop over the centuries, the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University was established to be adaptive, resilient, productive, and long lasting.

The idea for the sprawling Experience began with a conversation between artists representing various disciplines, people from local indigenous communities, musicians and more. The A.R.T. set up the convening in January for the group to muse about what could happen in the park.

“It’s been a really fun experiment,” musician Tim Hall said. “We found ourselves coming up with an idea as a team that was very new, very exciting, and because of that, there’s been a lot of learning as we go. We’re building the ship on the way.”
