The Blue Flower Program: Artistic Director’s Welcome

JAN 6, 2011

A welcome note from Artistic Director Diane Paulus.

Welcome to The Blue Flower!

The Blue Flower first came to my attention two years ago when Stephen Schwartz, composer and lyricist of the hit musicals Wicked, Pippin and Godspell, brought me the material. I immediately fell in love with this new musical and am thrilled that we are bringing this imaginative work by Jim Bauer and Ruth Bauer to the Loeb Mainstage.

With The Blue Flower, we continue the exploration of the Weimar period that began with our season opener, Cabaret. We move from a classic of the American musical canon to a bold new work that, inspired by the rebellious spirit of the Dada movement, fuses song, video and art in a story of four friends whose lives are forever changed by the ravages of war.

I believe that The Blue Flower will engage and move you. As part of your experience with the show, I invite you to stay at the Loeb post-show to continue your conversations over a drink in Cabaret Voltaire, our own Dada café in the lobby.

Thank you for being an integral part of our community and supporting bold new work at the A.R.T.
