“El Amor En Tiempos De Trump” is the culmination to a day-long symposium on queer of color criticism and performance at Tufts University. The night will highlight the work of two artists from the symposium (NIC KAY & Victor I. Cares), and feature three local drag artists (Jayden Jamison KA St. James, Queen JP, Emphysema Menthol One-Hundreds).
NIC Kay is from the Bronx. Currently occupying several liminal spaces. They are a person who makes performances and creates/organizes performative spaces. They are obsessed with the act and process of moving the change of place, production of space, position, and the clarity/meaning gleaned from shifting of perspective. NIC’s current transdisciplinary projects explore movement as a place of reclamation of the body, history and spirituality.NIC has shown work, spoken on panels and hosted workshops at numerous venues throughout the United States and International. In 2016 they developed a web series called the Bronx Cunt Tour around their debut solo performance lil BLK for Open TV, which premiered in April 2016. NIC Kay is currently a 2017 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence Van Lier Fellow in New York City.
VICTOR I. CARES was born twice on paper: in El Paso, Texas and San Lorenzo, Chihuahua, Mexico. His plays have been read, developed, or produced at American Repertory Theatre, Amherst College, Brown University, New York Theatre Workshop, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Red Fern Theatre Company, and the Yale School of Drama. Cazares holds an M.F.A. from Brown University and a B.A. in History of Art from Yale University where he received a Josef Albers Fellowship, a Sudler Grant, and a restraining order against his crazy ex-boyfriend that faked his way into Yale. He lives, forages, and produces his social media telenovela, El Amor en Tiempos de Trump in Portland, Oregon. His other names on social media include: putopig (BBRT), xV (Scruff), and Mijo Es Puto (Grindr).
QUEEN JP is a Boston-based bearded drag queen, who has been performing in the local drag and burlesque scene for one year and three months. JP was born and raised in El Salvador and moved to the USA in 2011. When JP isn’t performing or watching their favorite shows, JP is working with The Network/La Red as their Outreach and Education Associate, a position that they like because they’re able to bring their anti-oppression work to their work. Fluent in English and Spanish, JP incorporates Spanish language songs in their repertoire, since they believe that it is important to have representation in all aspects of life. Queen JP lives in Cambridge, MA with two roommates and a part-time dog.
Jayden Jamison KA St. James career has spanned 15 plus years and in those years, he has performed in places like Ohio, Arizona, NY, NJ, NC, SC and Toronto Gay Pride. He was a member of the Columbus drag king troupe, the Royal Renegades as well as being in the drag documentary Kings, Queens & In Betweens. Jayden is a former national titleholder, holding the title of Mr. Gay United States Male Illusionist 2016 and more recently, he won the title of Mistah Boston Pride King this past May. Jayden is also a member of the Lotux Asian drag group, as well as looking to build a drag king troupe here in Boston!
Emphysema Menthol One-Hundreds is a Boston-based drag performer who excels in the unexpected. Her dramatic costumes are only surpassed by her even more dramatic, and often controversial performances. You can find her hosting Jacques Cabaret’s bi-monthly alternative drag event #NoFilter the first Monday and third Friday of every month.
