Calling on a powerful and versatile voice, Joseph Keckler presents a collection of colorful episodes from his own life—a trip on hallucinogens, and an expedition to the bondage store, for instance—in operatic form, as though they were epic dramas of life and death. He veers into vivid fantasies as well, leading the audience through terrain both humorous and haunting.
BIO
Keckler is a singer, musician, writer, and visual artist. His work has been seen at many venues including SXSW, Centre Pompidou, BAM, SXSW, Miami Art Basel, and PEN American Center and has been featured on BBC America and WNYC Soundcheck. He has been awarded a Creative Capital, NYFA Fellowship, and Franklin Furnace grant, and In 2013 was named by the Village Voice as the “Best Downtown Performance Artist” in NYC. Joseph made his off-broadway debut in Preludes at Lincoln Center. A collection of his writing, Dragon at the Edge of a Flat World will be published by Turtle Point Press fall of 2017.
