The Crossroad Players, Boston’s newest theatre company, proudly present their debut production of Marsha Norman’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, ‘Night, Mother. Join us, as a seemingly normal night in the Cates’ household turn into a chasm of secrets, pain, love, and loss.

The play occurs in real time, depicting one evening between Jessie Cates and her mother, Thelma. The supposedly normal day in the Cates household is shattered when Jessie announces that she plans to kill herself in a few hours. As Jessie tries to explain, and Mama tries to change her mind, the audience becomes privy to their family history, secrets, and long-endured pain. Ultimately, the play comes to a disturbing conclusion.

The issue of suicide has always been complicated and controversial. This play brings us to the heart of both sides. Does the right to life mean we should all have the right to choose death? Or is such action as heartless and devastating as murder? We invite you to come watch the story of Jessie and Thelma and to draw your own conclusions.
