Written and Performed by Rachel Mars
With Original Music Composed and Arranged by Louise Mothersole
The creation of UK-based performance artist Rachel Mars, Our Carnal Hearts is a passionate act of exorcism. The show calls envy—in all its personal and political guises—into the spotlight through a medley of folk tales, Tweets, contemporary personalities, and Sacred Harp singing. This East coast premiere is presented in association with Lucy Jackson (Roosevelvis) and Arch 468.
About the artist
Rachel is a performance maker with a background in theatre, live art and comedy. She explores the idiosyncratic cultural and political constructs that inform the way we are together, as people, just trying to figure it all out. She’s recently interrogated humour, the language of 80’s pop and politics and the science of rage.
She’s created work alongside The Royal Court and the Tate Modern, been commissioned by Cambridge Junction, CPT, Fuel Theatre and been in residency at The Orchard Project (NY) and Cove Park (UK). Her performances have been shown around the UK including at The Barbican, South Bank Centre and Royal Exchange Manchester and at festivals internationally including Fusebox, Austin and Wildside, Montreal. Rachel also leads workshops for students and artists of all backgrounds. Her work is often supported by grants from Arts Council, England.
