OBERON Presents is thrilled to welcome Parsonsfield back to Cambridge for a special night of music and visual art to celebrate the release of their stirring new album “Blooming Through The Black.”
During A.R.T.’s 2013/14 Season, Parsonsfield performed their critically acclaimed original songs written for The Heart of Robin Hood and recorded on their debut release ‘Poor Old Shine’. The band followed the production to Canada, where the songs for ‘Blooming Through The Black’ first came to life. Produced by Sam Kassirer and recorded in an abandoned axe factory in Collinsville, CT, the new songs were nurtured and reworked, resulting in a collection chock full of the most infectious, emotionally mature songs of their career.
Parsonsfield’s onstage joy is palpable. They trade instruments, share microphones, and shoot each other big grins. Singing in tight multi-part harmonies, their voices blend like they’ve been doing this together all their lives. That’s because Parsonsfield is a family band, not by birth but by choice. And with an album this thrilling, it’s only a matter of time before you share their same enthusiasm.
Folk Alley dubbed their songs “the most jubilant and danceable indie roots music this side of the Carolinas.” Their rowdy live performances only upped the ante, with The Bluegrass Situation falling for their “fun and frenzy” and No Depression raving that they’ll “give you rich five-part harmonies one minute, sound like bluegrass on steroids the next, and then rock you over the head with unbearably cool and raucous Celtic rhythms.”
This evening is part of Sound Society at OBERON, a new music series co-curated by local producer and musician Sam Kassirer (Lake Street Dive, Josh Ritter, Parsonsfield). These one-night only events will feature exceptional musicians, bands, and special guests in performances designed for OBERON’s unique club-theater setting.
