The Aristophanesathon is the newest adaptation by Chicago-based director/adapter Sean Graney (All Our Tragic, and many Gilbert and Sullivan adaptations seen at OBERON and the A.R.T.’s Mainstage) It is a conjoined adaptation featuring the eleven surviving comedies of Aristophanes rolled into one five-hour event, complete with breaks and food. Please join us for some theater, laughs and drinks.

This is a developmental reading featuring graduate actors from the A.R.T. Institute Class of 2017.

Sean Graney is a Chicago-based theater artist who passionately cares about the audience. For over twenty years, he has been concentrating on adapting and directing stories to create relevant theatrical pieces for contemporary society. In November of 2014, after a three-year hiatus, Sean returned to being the Artistic Director of The Hypocrites, a Chicago theater company he founded in 1997. In 2013, he was a Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University where he completed writing All Our Tragic, a twelve-hour adaptation combining all thirty-two surviving Greek Tragedies. It garnered six Joseph Jefferson Awards, including best Director and Best Adaptation.
