For his adaptation of the classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, writer/director Sean Graney (Pirates of Penzance) – the founding artistic director of The Hypocrites – turned not only to William Shakespeare’s play but also to the libretto of the Italian opera I Capuleti e I Montecchi by Felice Romani. In this new version of the tale of a forbidden love between the children of warring families, the Hypocrites cast members were encouraged to become their own production designers to keep the experience intimate.
