Based on George Eliot’s novel Silas Marner, the musical tells the timeless story of a reclusive weaver who must flee his hometown after he is accused of murder. Silas is forced to confront past ghosts and re-discover the importance of human connection in this classic tale of love, loss, and healing. Award-winning composer Erica Glenn (ericaglenn.com) and playwright Melissa Leilani Larson (melissaleilanilarson.com) have teamed to adapt the beloved story for the stage.
Charles Strouse, the Tony Award-winning composer of Annie and Bye, Bye Birdie!, has called the music “full of drama and rich in harmonic and melodic substance.” According to Jill Santoriello, composer of Tale of Two Cities: The Musical, the show demonstrates “an impressive blending of feeling and craft. Emotional music soars alongside lyrics that are smart and sensitive, faithful to this classic story and its characters.”
Presented as a reading at the prestigious New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2012, this production is the musical’s world premiere.
