Exceptional! A new generation’s take on ‘Evita.’
The Boston Globe
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Tony Award-winning rock opera Evita follows the adored and reviled Eva Perón’s meteoric rise from an impoverished childhood to first lady of Argentina until her death at 33. Directed by Sammi Cannold (Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Hollywood & Entertainment, Endlings, Violet), this eagerly anticipated revival featuring unforgettable songs including “Buenos Aires” and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” explores how we make sense of contradictions in legacy.
This production includes haze, prop firearms, occasional strong language, and stylized violence and sexuality.

Updated version of Evita comes to A.R.T.
The production aims to give audiences a truer look at the late first lady of Argentina Eva Peron, who died from cancer at age 33. While the A.R.T.’s version doesn’t change the music or dialogue, it makes the intentions of the characters clearer.

Essential Question
Icon or human. Villain or saint. Aggressor or victim.
Who was the woman inside the ballgown, and how can we make sense of contradictions in legacy?
A.R.T. leads with inquiry and believes in asking questions in a spirit of brave curiosity in a neverending journey of learning and growth. Ahead of each production, the creative team, company, and the Education & Engagement team develop one or more Essential Questions to guide work in the rehearsal room, onstage, and for engaging with audiences.
